MADISON, Wisconsin—Berntsen International Inc., a Sustaining Member of CALS, has been awarded a five-year, $5 million contract by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to provide the survey monuments used to mark the nation’s boundaries. An agency of the US Department of the Interior, the BLM administers more than 247 million acres of public lands.
“This is great news for our company. We’re proud that the federal government has recognized Berntsen as the preferred provider of monuments used to mark America’s boundaries,” said Mike Klonsinski, president of Berntsen International.
The BLM bid criteria emphasized the need for quality and proven customer service. Berntsen’s premium survey monuments are the standard in the industry thanks to its unique orbital forged manufacturing process. That manufacturing excellence and the company’s reputation for superior customer support earned the award.
Berntsen is a small family-owned business with a big reputation in the surveying world. The company boasts a large customer base of surveyors and a full catalog of marking products for this industry. Its marking products are found on the summit of Mount Denali, along the Lewis and Clark Trail, at the Four Corners, and in the Wisconsin State Capitol. The company is an active and sustaining member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) and invests in the surveying industry’s future by providing scholarships to students interested in surveying careers.
Berntsen is an example of how even the smallest firms can become leaders through ongoing innovation. In recent years, Berntsen has expanded its world-class survey line and is now providing next-generation products for utility infrastructure marking. Berntsen’s InfraMarker is an award-winning solution that takes advantage of RFID technology to connect markers at underground utility points to mobile mapping and GIS software to reduce utility damage incidents.
“We’re gratified that our core products continue to be recognized as the best in the industry, but we’re equally excited about our expansion into the ‘smart’ marking world. It’s how Berntsen is going to be successful for the next forty years,” Klonsinski said.
