CALS 50th Annual Meeting / North East Surveying States Convention

November 3, 2017 - November 4, 2017

Dear Fellow CALS Member:

It is an honor and a pleasure to invite you to join us and your fellow associates on Friday and Saturday, November 3-4, 2017, as the Connecticut Association of Land Surveyors (CALS) celebrates “50” years of hard work, dedication and success. In addition, we are pleased to host the 5th North East Surveying Societies Conference (NESS-V). The meeting will be held at the Sheraton Hotel, 100 Capital Blvd., Rocky Hill, CT 06067. A block of rooms has been reserved for a discounted price of $125 per night. Please be sure to mention CALS when you make your reservation, by October 5, 2017, in order to receive the preferred price.

Our keynote speaker will be Dr. Joseph Paiva, who will give a presentation on “Unmanned Aircraft Systems in Surveying and Mapping” on Friday, followed by a seminar on “Bulletproofing Your Surveys,” on Saturday. Of great interest will also be a lecture on “Stone Walls” presented by Dr. Robert Thorson. In addition, we will be hosting a NESS Round Table Discussion of mutual, relevant topics.

The exhibit hall will be filled with vendors displaying state-of-the-art equipment as well as offering products and services to enhance your business. Many of our Sustaining Members have reserved a private room for special presentations.

This year we have made a special effort to provide activities for spouses and guests who may not wish to attend technical seminars. On Friday morning there will be a motivational speaker and a lecture on the history of the Mark Twain House. After lunch we are offering a wine tasting visit to the Rosabianca Vineyard in nearby Northford, CT

You won’t want to miss the auction on Friday, followed by the awards dinner which will include the “Passing of the Torch” to the Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors & Civil Engineers.

As always, there will be a display of maps from the Map Design Competition and the pacing contest that provides the opportunity to demonstrate your expertise. Last year we added a vertical element to the competition for extra interest.

This is going to be a great event, and we look forward to sharing it with you.

Very truly yours,

Susan F. Mattern, CALS 1st Vice-President

Annual Meeting Chairman
