Storrs, Connecticut

Opportunity Announcement:

The Connecticut Department of Transportation and the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) at the University of Connecticut maintain and operate Connecticut’s public GPS real-time network, called the Advanced Continuously Operating Reference Network (ACORN). We are seeking an individual to become the ACORN administrator. The ACORN administrator has responsibility for the daily operation of ACORN, trouble-shooting problems, providing some limited user support, and being a research assistant (RA) and a teaching assistant (TA) for two undergraduate geomatics courses in NRE. This is a special payroll position, so it can be filled either by someone who is, or would like to be, an NRE graduate student, or by someone outside the University. For a student at UConn, this is effectively an RA/TA. For someone external to UConn, this is a part-time position, typically 17 hours per week with a highly flexible schedule. The new administrator will be trained to operate and maintain Trimble PIVOT, which is the software that runs ACORN. We seek an individual who is knowledgeable about land surveying, global navigation satellite system (GNSS) positioning, information technology systems, and geographic information systems (GIS).
